Lie down on the floor and keep calm.
At the moment, I am almost two-thirds of the way through The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson. Egads, what a mind-job! The book is full of drug-induced hallucinations; the authors will skip between many different locations and time-lines, often within the same page; and then they slip into usage of the first person without warning, sometimes switching characters in the middle of a scene.
This is my third attempt at reading it. The first time I got through a few dozen pages. The second, I made it to about page 130. Third time’s the charm (thought I suppose fifth would have been more appropriate). Another aspect that makes it difficult for me is the number of characters involved. I seem to have trouble remembering names, spoken or written, so I can get lost if I’m not careful.
Even so, or probably more accurately, because of this, I’m enjoying it immensely. This is one of the best self-help books I’ve read yet.
