Next, on a very special ER

The patient is stable, but still critical. I won’t bore you with all the details of how my printer has had problem after problem after problem, but I will say that I can understand how people end up thinking that they’ve been cursed. I just want to be able to print, dammit.

Freeze Frame

I also had two pieces in this year’s Photographer’s Path show.

Jade came to visit me and we did some photo shoots of her in costume. A couple of pics are in the Portraits Gallery.

Jade also turned me on to The Photo Forum. A message board dedicated to photography which has a bunch of cool folk on it.

Check it out sometime.

Today was a Good Mail DayTM.

This got dropped in my box today. Woo! Astute readers will notice a close similarity between the cover and this photo. My first cover! What a thrill! I have to admit that seeing it on Amazon is a big rush, too, even though they are the “Evil Empire”. There are alternatives, even if not as cheap.

Muchos gracias, Thumper! Thank you so much for sending it!

Verrry late spring

I got word from SEAD that the Second Story book is at the printers and should be back around the 25th. If you are quick, you can still get a pre-order in for a reduced price.

Alternative Polaroid processes

I took a workshop on alternative Polaroid processes at the Community Darkroom last weekend with Glen Graver. Lots of fun! Here are my best of each type. We also did some SX-70 manipulations, but I don’t really care for those, so I only did one half-heartedly.

Just a reminder…

A few people have asked when the Second Story book was coming out so that they could get one. You can pre-order it now and save a few bucks. The book should be published late spring.

A nice surprise!

Well, last night was a blast! Heidi, Paul, Porche, and I went to the King and I for dinner then headed down to the reception. My first gift from the universe was someone pulling out of a parking space just as I pulled up to Browns Race. Parking can be a pain if you don’t want to spend the cash on the parking garage, so I lucked out there. The real surprise of the night happened after I got upstairs. Joe Blackburn was near the entrance as I walked in. He saw me, pointed me where to pick up my name tag, told me my prints were hanging around the corner, and then said I had a nice surprise waiting. It was somewhat crowded already, so I decided to pick up my tag first, as it was easier walking in that direction. As I made my way around to my prints, I noticed that the Twins had a ribbon next to it. Turns out it won a Jury’s Choice award! It ranked in the top five scores out of something like 154 images. How about that! I was flying high all night. It didn’t hurt that I got loads of compliments and that there were a couple of posters of the invitation in the room. There was a pretty good sized one at the entrance. I grabbed some digital pics of the evening that I’ll post later. I got to chat with some photographer friends and made some new ones too. I was sorely tempted to buy several of the images hanging. Stop down and check it out. There’s a lot of great pieces up.

The invites are in!

I dropped off my entries for the High Falls show: A Photographers Path V yesterday and picked up the invitations. I really like how they turned out. If anyone wants one, let me know. I grabbed a large pile of ‘em. They are postcard size.

Things are looking up…

More good news! The South East Arts Development group (SEAD) asked for submissions late last year for their “Second Story” project: a look at Monroe Avenue above street level. I submitted a few images which will be on display for the preview reception on Friday, March 1st, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., at 171 Monroe Avenue. If any of you are going to be in town, I’d love it if you could come. If I’m lucky, there may even be a surprise involved.
